Favourite Food in London

The photo is one I took at Kitchen Table Bubbledogs, which you can read about under “fine dining.” Below, see my recommendations for what to eat in London, from chains and quick eats, to BBQ and Seafood…

All of the following restaurants have at least two locations. Those indicated with an asterix have only one premises (as of July 2016) in the United Kingdom.

Chains & Quick Eats

  • Pret – coffee, sandwiches, salads. There’s a Pret on practically every corner of every city!
  • itsu – grab-n-go sushi and noodle pots for the lunch crowds.
  • Leon – great for breakfast, with any item + any coffee for £4.35. For lunch, they have middle eastern salads and pots. Many restaurants around central London.
  • POD – a healthier option. Great scrambled eggs for breakfast.
  • Vital Ingredient – £6-8 to build your own salads. A favourite lunch place!

Something for Everyone 

  • Wahaca – Mexican street food. Excellent for ordering several small plates to share!
  • Bill’s – casual dining with a big range of options.
  • Café Rouge – British interpretation of a French brasserie, with sandwiches, salads, and steaks.
  • Pizza Express – casual restaurant with pizzas, pastas, and salads.
  • Nando’s – casual spot for rotisserie chicken, chicken burgers, and salads. Somewhat of a British cultural icon, see also: “Cheeky Nandos.

Coffee & Cakes

  • Nordic Bakery – coffee and pastry, Scandi style.
  • Fleet River Bakery* – independent coffee house at Lincoln’s Inn Field, near Holborn Tube Station
  • Monmouth Coffee* – the original hipster coffee roasters. Found at Borough Market, near London Bridge

Pizza

Burgers, Steaks, and BBQ

  • Shake Shack* – NYC chain splashed down in Covent Garden a few years ago and is very popular with tourists and locals alike.
  • MEATLiqour
  • Bodean’s
  • Byron Burgers – my favourite place for a quick, not-super-expensive burger.
  • Flat Iron – fantastic steak for £10. end of story.
  • Burger & Lobster – order a burger, a lobster, or a lobster roll.
  • Cau – casual and modern Argentinian restaurant for steaks, burgers, and salads.
  • Orange Buffalo*

Seafood

  • Burger & Lobster – order a burger, a lobster, or a lobster roll.
  • Loch Fyne – an upscale seafood and grill restaurant, similar to Anthony’s at Pier 66 in Seattle.

Japanese & Chinese

  • Sticks n Sushi – our favourite place for sushi, with locations in Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Covent Garden
  • SushiSamba* – 38th Floor of Heron Tower in the Financial District
  • Hutong – award winning Chinese cuisine against a backdrop of stunning views from level 33 of The Shard.
  • Yauatcha – dim sum teahouse offering classic and contemporary dim sum and wok dishes.

Indian & Nepalese

  • Dishoom – popular Bombay-inspired British Asian (Indian) food in an upscale restaurant

Fine Dining

  • Kitchen Table at Bubbledogs* – Michelin starred tasting menu hidden behind a discrete entrance. Seats only 19 covers each night, so book ahead!
